The question stung a little.  But if I am being honest, it shouldn’t have surprised me.  It was a consider the source type of question as the person who asked had lived a life in which I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some regrets.  Specifically regrets of things they hadn’t done.  And I think those will be our biggest regrets someday.  

Not the times we swung and missed. 

But the times we never stepped up to the plate. 

I don’t know about you, but I would rather fail at a bunch of stuff than never try.  I don’t always want to play it safe.  Because there is so much good stuff when we step out of the boat and extend ourselves a little bit. 

The question of whether it was worth it was around the amount of time I have spent on content creation- for social media.  For keynotes.  For talks.  For coaching. For live videos.

And as I pondered my response, there was a follow-up question- I mean, what are you getting out of it?

I could see where this was going, but I realized how important this question was.  And is.  And will be going forward as I hope to be a speaker, coach, and content creator for the rest of the days God blesses me with.  

Is it worth it?

My answer was a resounding yes.  A thousand times yes.  Maybe even a million.  Maybe even ten million.  

And why is the answer a resounding yes?

Because I know my why.  Beyond the shadow of a doubt.  I know my why.  

I know why I exist.  I have taken time and pondered it and discovered that the why for Eric Recker is simply this-

I exist to make a difference and impact for the Kingdom of God that is utterly disproportionate to who I am.  

That’s it.  That’s the entirety of my existence.  That simple yet very complex sentence is the due north for me in this season of life. 

Knowing my why has allowed me to be able to make decisions on how I show up, how I spend my time, how I invest my resources, how I relate to my family, my people, my patients, and those around me.  

It has also helped me to know when to say no.  If something doesn’t fit my why, then I have a reason to say a strategic no.  

So all the content.  All the coaching sessions.  All the talks.  All the social media posts and videos.  

Ultimately pointing people towards Jesus.  And in the process giving people tools to become better versions of themselves. Better in the business world.  Better parents.  Better humans.

So is it worth it?  You bet it is.  

And what am I getting out of it?  Knowing that I am walking out my why.  Living out my god-given purpose for my days on this earth.  

I don’t know about you, but that is enough for me.  And each day it is a perfect way to #WINtheNOW
