Milestones and Moments

Jun 9, 2022

The Recker family is in a season of milestones.  Big moments.  Jace just completed his check ride to become a Private Pilot.  Just to answer the most frequently asked questions- yes, he can now fly with passengers.  Yes, he can fly by himself wherever he wants.  No, we are not concerned about him.  He is a great pilot and we are excited about this part of his journey.

Blake and Emily got engaged over Tulip Time!  Wow!  We couldn’t be more thrilled that Emily will be part of our family.  They are waist-deep in wedding planning with a date of June 10, 2023.

Amy will be speaking to a homeschool conference tomorrow about her home-organizing business, Aim Simple.  I am proud of her for taking this big risk as this is outside her comfort zone by a country mile.

And I am trying to keep up with them.  It’s a joy and a privilege.

We have seasons of milestones, but they can really be few and far between in our lives.  And if we only live for the big stuff, we miss out on a lot of life in between. Life is in the average moments of our lives.  The meals.  The movies we watch.  The games we play.  The walks we take.  The days of work.

And these small moments are big deals.  Life is so much richer if we can find joy in the everyday.  When is the last time you looked at life through the eyes of awe and wonder?  When is the last time you pondered the miracle of being able to go for a walk?  All the parts of your body that need to function in concert to be able to move.  Or the magic of a meal together with all the things that had to happen to get the food to your table and all of the flavors that combine to the culinary experience.

Or even the clouds and the sun and the colors outside.  Amazing.  Life is a miracle and our moments are the same.

It is easy to get caught up in the big and grand.  But there is joy in the everyday.  I hope to get better at noticing it.  I hope you will join me.
